Teaching schools have an important role to play in a school-led system and in school improvement. Teaching schools will be centres of excellence, taking on a more focused role that prioritises:
• Co-ordinating and delivering high quality school-based initial teacher training (ITT)
• Providing high quality school-to-school support to spread excellent practice, particularly to schools that need it most
• Providing evidence-based professional and leadership development for teachers and leaders across their network
In addition, teaching schools can play a role as brokerage hubs for other system leaders, co-ordinating the supply and activity of national leaders of education (NLEs), national leaders of governance (NLGs) and specialist leaders of education (SLEs). They help prevent underperformance by supporting vulnerable schools, and where needed, help tackle underperformance in coasting schools and lead improvement in good schools.

As a teaching school, we are remitted to focus our work on six key areas, known as the Big 6: • Initial Teacher Training

• Research and Development
• Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)
• Succession Planning and Talent Management

Accountability
In order to ensure credibility and high impact we must adhere to requirements set by NCTL and co-operate with necessary reporting processes.

Continuous improvement
We are required to pursue continuous improvement supported by the peer review process in order to develop and achieve/sustain maturity of provision.

Alliance deliverers do not have to meet the teaching school eligibility criteria but do need to show that they have the competence and capacity to provide high-quality support in a particular area. This might include initial teacher training, continuing professional and leadership development or capacity to support schools in challenging circumstances.
